The Cheap Cassettes – ‘Kiss The Ass Of My Heart’ (Rum Bar Records)

Always welcome for a round of drinks in the Singles Club is anyone associated with the fantastic seal of quality that is Rum Bar Records, and old Über Favs The Cheap Cassettes are always welcome too.  Four tracks of foot stomping power pop arenever going to get turned away from this club.  The lead track is as solid as a rock with a tight rhythm and some great hooks on the six string and a cool understated melody. Available on white wax and (obviously) cassette (how could it not be?) and with a whole range of merched up goodies, this is a must-have item. But the music is the deal clincher, and songs as strong as ‘Hieroglyphics in Lipstick’ remind me of The Breakdowns and their melodic rock ‘n’ roll, which is always going to be a good thing; hints of The Jam as well in the rhythm attack, and the best is kept for track four with a harder rocker in the shape of ‘Worse N’ Better’.
